The Spring Season always reminds me of new beginnings!
It is a season of new growth as we look around at nature. New buds on the trees. New baby birds peeping from nests high up in the eaves. New flowers popping through the water soaked soil. New baby squirrels scampering about as they are chased by new puppies. New green grass poking up through brown terrain. New baby geese waddling behind their freshly returned parents.
The air is crisp with the promise of summer warmth and filled with the sounds of life. The sunny days begin to outweigh the cloudy ones and last a little longer each day. The world just seems fresh and vibrant and new! The season lifts our spirits, spurns us on to increased physical activity and outdoor adventure. Everyone is a little happier, friendlier and spunkier! Spring is a good, good thing!
As we move further into this beautiful season of new beginnings, and farther from the cold, desolate winter months, I am reminded yet again of God’s word. Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
God, Himself, spoke these words to His beloved people, the Israelites. His very wayward children during a time when they were very far from Him. He was imploring them to see that He was about to redeem them by doing something He had never done before. By sending His very own Son to be the sacrifice for their sin. To free them from bondage and usher them into blessed release. All so that He and they could be in closer communion with one another. That they would have a new beginning with Him. That they would walk from winter to spring!
I am so thankful that God spoke these words to His children thousands of years ago. I am so thankful that they are relevant to me today. I am so thankful that He sent His Son to be my sacrifice. I am so thankful that I have a new beginning in Christ and that I am a new creation. I am so thankful that I can walk in freedom. I am so thankful that I can live my days in the perpetual season of His spring.
There is lightness in my step, joy in my heart, growth in my life, youth in my face, energy in my bones, sunniness in my disposition and hope for my future. Because His spring lives in me, I can face all things knowing that I am His and He is mine. He is alive in me and His work on the cross has made me new.
I am further reminded of a song we have been singing in church these last few months. It goes like this…
It’s all because of Jesus I’m alive,
It’s all because the blood of Jesus Christ, That covers me and raised this dead man’s life. Oh, it’s all because of Jesus I’m alive. -Casting Crowns
