Holy Week — The Cross

Written by: Melissa Lefevers

It is spring break for us here and we made a trip out of it to visit family. My Mom has cute Easter decorations up and we are even having family Easter a little early while we are in town. There will be eggs dyed and an epic Easter egg hunt later. For those native to south Louisiana there is even crawfish to be consumed. Which, might I add is very exciting for me since I can not get those anymore in my new home in north Georgia.

As I sit and drink my coffee i see my Daddy’s Sunday School book on the end table and I stare at the cover. It has a beautiful picture of a cross on a hillside. The picture is beautiful and in my mind I start singing one phrase to a song.

“The Cross has the final word.” ( song by Cody Carnes)

Over and over in my head is sing this one phrase. I start to think about that phrase. The Cross has the final word, and really wonder what that means for me, for us as Christians. Jesus came to give us hope. He came to give us a future. He came to show us mercy and grace. He came to give us life and give it to us more abundantly.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10

Yes, the Cross has the final word because Jesus has come to give us life not death. He came so that even in our sin we can have forgiveness.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Yes, the Cross has the final word. God loves us so much that even though we mess up all the time he still sent us Jesus. He sent his One and Only Son to live on this earth to die a cruel and horrible death so that we may live. So that we may live and have access to the Father through the son.

Yes, the Cross has the final word because through the horrific events of Jesus’ crucifixion we have life. Yes, the Cross has the final word in our lives. No matter what is happening in our lives Jesus is in it all. He has already defeated death through the cross and it is finished.

“Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:55-57

It is done. It is finished. We all have victory in Jesus! This Easter I am choosing to celebrate the life I have because the Cross has the final word. Through the Cross I have freedom in my relationship with Jesus. Through the Cross we have access to the father. Through the Cross I have power to live out this life victoriously through the Son. Through the Cross we are free from the chains of sin. Through the Cross no matter what comes our way Jesus and Only Jesus has the final word.

Yes, the Cross truly has the final word!
