Know Him

Written by: Melissa Lefevers

If I were to ask you why you should read your Bible what would you tell me? Would you say because you’re supposed to? Why do you feel like you are supposed to? Maybe because everyone told you that you had to your entire life.

What if I told you that you didn’t have to but that you should want to, it should be a desire not an obligation? Does this change anything for you?

Yes, you should study your Bible. Yes, you should read your Bible but the desire to should far out weigh the have to. So, what is the why? Why should we read and study our Bible?

Let’s think about it together. Give me just a couple of moments of free thinking to answer that question.

What happens when you meet someone new? You want to get to know them and you want to spend time with them. You want to be around them. You want to ask them questions and get to know them. You realize that the more time you spend with them the more you find out about them.

It’s the same way with Jesus. In order to get to know him we need to spend time with him. You don’t spend time with your friends because you feel like you have to. You spend time with them because you want to.

All we have to do is look at Jesus and see that he himself new this to be true. Even the very son of God spent time alone with God.

Mark 1:35 ASV Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left [the house], and went out to a secluded place, and was praying there.

Luke 5:16 NASB But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.

If Jesus did this don’t you think it is important that we do it as well.

Reading and Studying our Bible not only keeps us connected to God but when we spend time with God daily, learn about him, get to know him better and MEMORIZE his words we can stand when it feels like all we can do is fall.

WE HAVE ALL WE NEED TO STAND AND LIVE VICTORIOUSLY!

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NIV For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Psalm 119:105-112The Message (MSG)
By your words I can see where I’m going;
    they throw a beam of light on my dark path.
I’ve committed myself and I’ll never turn back
    from living by your righteous order.
Everything’s falling apart on me, God;
    put me together again with your Word.
Festoon me with your finest sayings, God;
    teach me your holy rules.
My life is as close as my own hands,
    but I don’t forget what you have revealed.
The wicked do their best to throw me off track,
    but I don’t swerve an inch from your course.
I inherited your book on living; it’s mine forever—
    what a gift! And how happy it makes me!
I concentrate on doing exactly what you say—
    I always have and always will.

Let us not ever forget that the Bible is not dead but it ALIVE!! Just like JESUS.

Hebrews 4:12 New Life Version (NLV)
12 God’s Word is living and powerful. It is sharper than a sword that cuts both ways. It cuts straight into where the soul and spirit meet and it divides them. It cuts into the joints and bones. It tells what the heart is thinking about and what it wants to do.

Ok Last little bit of info. To me this is so cool.

John 1:1-5 HCS Holman Christian Standard
In the beginning was the Word,[a]
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.

All things were created through Him,
and apart from Him not one thing was created
that has been created.

The word WORD is capitalized which gives it importance. In these verses the WORD is Jesus.

So you see we have all we need to live this life right here in the word because HE IS THE WORD. The verses I gave you above show you that you have the power to live this crazy Christian life VICTORIOUSLY!! Not just survive it but live it VICTORIOUSLY!

We have been given life through Jesus and the Word. Let us take the time daily to get to know our Savior and truly live for Him. Let us take our have to and turn it into a want to. Take a moment today and get to know Jesus just a little more.
