Ever felt done? You know ready to throw in the towel? Quit?
I think we all have at one time or another. We have wanted to not push through a tough situation. Maybe even quit doing the laundry because what is the point it is ALWAYS there!!
Sometimes we get tired of doing good. We treat others nicely when they don’t even care. We continually give more of ourselves than we think is possible and get nothing in return.
We volunteer at church with no thanks. No-one in our home notices all we do for them.
We work at our jobs with no promotion even when it was promised. Life gets messy and hard and we keep giving and giving and giving. Storms and trails come and it hurts. We fight the good fight and sometimes we don’t fare well.
I know I have felt all of these things before. If I am honest with you sometimes in ministry I feel like throwing in the towel. I teach and pray and try and hope that students will get it.
What is the it? Jesus is more than a religion thing. Jesus is everything! Yes, very often through the years students have gotten it. They have given their all to Jesus and still do today. But, honestly the days are long, hours never ending and sometimes life in ministry is just crazy. Sometimes it seems it would just be easier to give up.
Then like the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen, God shows up. He shows up in ways that prove he is so faithful. He shows up in whispers and a beautiful birds song in the spring. Yet, I have to be looking for it. I need to have eyes that are fixed on Jesus and not myself to see that he is working in it all.
Yes, he truly works all things together for my good, and through out the years I have learned for others good too. If I quit I wouldn’t see all that was meant to be. If I would give up I wouldn’t get the joy of seeing what perseverance gains.
Maybe for you it isn’t your job. Maybe your loved ones are sick and you need a miracle. Maybe your children are caught up in a mess and you need a miracle. Maybe you are just deep in the throughs of preschool life and you need someone to see all you do. Maybe you are in financial trouble and you need a miracle. Maybe your just in a rut and you need to see Jesus in everything and in a new way.
Sweet friends DO.NOT.GIVE.UP.
Keep pushing forward and let the words of James bring encouragement and peace to your soul.
James 1:12The Message (MSG)
12 Anyone who meets a testing challenge head-on and manages to stick it out is mighty fortunate. For such persons loyally in love with God, the reward is life and more life.
Do you see the promise. Life and more life. Let us not give up but meet our challenges head on and stick it out. Let us love God with all we are and really live!!
